Chapter 67 - Gudmund tells Grettir of a likely place to settle down.
Chapter 68 - The widow Geirlaug convinces Thorodd to attack Grettir.
Chapter 69 - Grettir makes his way to his mother Asdis’ house. While there his brother Illugi decides leave home and go with Grettir. Asdis believes she will never see her sons again.
Chapter 70 - The twenty owners of the island of Drangey, where Grettir and Illugi settle, are introduced. Thord’s sons are the wealthiest of these men.

Chapter 63 - Thorir is made to look like a fool when he is tricked by Grettir in disguise.
Chapter 64 - Grettir decides to go to Sandhauger when he hears that it is haunted. He assumes the name Gest so that he won’t be readily recognized.
Chapter 65 - “Gest” fights the Trollwoman and only just escapes with his life.
Chapter 66 - While trying to prove that he had indeed fought a troll, Grettir Finds a giant’s cave. Stein the Priest leaves him for dead because the fighting inside the cave is so fierce.

Chapter 60 - The people from Myrar tire of being terrorized by Grettir and attack him.
Chapter 61 - Bjorn tells Grettir that he must leave when the winter was over. Grettir respects Bjorn and leaves for Geitland without incident.
Chapter 62 - An outlaw named Grim uses Grettir’s hiding place while he is with Bjorn. Hallmund makes trouble for Grim because of this.

Chapter 56 - Thorir Redbeard makes an attempt to get close to Grettir in order to kill him. He only succeeds in losing his life.
Chapter 57 - Hallmund helps Grettir defend himself against eighty men and wins Grettir’s trust.
Chapter 58 - Bjorn helps Grettir find a place to hide in Hitara.
Chapter 59 - Bjorn’s friends overhear Gisli’s plans to kill Grettir. Based on this information Grettir is able to kill GIsili’s men and beat Gisli so severely that he went to great lengths to never meet up with Grettir agian.

Chapter 52 - Grettir becomes a bandit. When he is captured Thorbjorg speaks on his behalf and the people of Isafjord spare his life.
Chapter 53 - Thorstein Kuggason, Grettir’s kinsman, give him a place to stay for the winter. Come spring Grettir is asked to leave as he is not willing to put effort into his work.
Chapter 54 - Loft meets Grettir while he is traveling. Grettir leaves this meeting thinking he’s met someone stronger than himself.
Chapter 55 - Grettir tries to settle down but his ill-luck is still with him.
